COMMON LAND ROVER & RANGE ROVER ISSUES

Land Rover and Range Rover are some of the most complex European vehicles on the road — and some of the most misdiagnosed. We've worked on enough of them to know the difference between a real failure and a sensor throwing a false alarm.
Issue 1 — Air Suspension Failure
SYMPTOM: Car sitting lower on one side, a rough or bouncy ride, or a suspension warning message on the dash.
WHY IT HAPPENS: Air suspension gives Range Rovers their signature ride quality, but air springs, air suspension lines, the compressor, valve block, and height sensors can wear out or develop leaks over time — especially in colder climates.
HOW WE HANDLE IT: We test the system for leaks and diagnose the exact failed component before replacing parts, whether the problem is an air spring, air line, compressor, valve block, or sensor.
Issue 2 — Oil or Coolant Leak
SYMPTOM: Oil spots under the car, a burning smell, or a coolant warning light.
WHY IT HAPPENS: Common sources include the oil pan, valve cover gaskets, oil filter housing, PCV system, coolant pipes and hoses, water pump, thermostat, and head gasket — and on these engines, one leak is often mistaken for another without a real inspection.
HOW WE HANDLE IT: We pressure-test and inspect the system to pinpoint the exact source of an oil or coolant leak before recommending repair — whether it requires a gasket, coolant hose or pipe, water pump, thermostat, or another component.
Issue 3 — Power Steering or Hydraulic Leak
SYMPTOM: Fluid under the vehicle, low power steering fluid, steering noise, or steering that feels unusually heavy or inconsistent
WHY IT HAPPENS: Hydraulic lines and hoses can develop leaks from age, heat, corrosion, damaged fittings, or worn seals. Power steering lines and related hydraulic components are common areas to inspect when fluid loss appears.
HOW WE HANDLE IT: We locate the source of the hydraulic leak first, then repair or replace the failed line, hose, fitting, or related power steering component instead of replacing unrelated parts.
Issue 4 — Head Gasket & Engine Concerns
SYMPTOM: Overheating, white smoke from the exhaust, or oil and coolant mixing.
WHY IT HAPPENS: Head gasket failure shows up across several Land Rover engine families and is often missed until it's already caused further engine damage.
HOW WE HANDLE IT: We diagnose engine condition fully before recommending gasket repair, an engine rebuild, or replacement — depending on what the engine actually needs.
Issue 5 — Failed Emissions Test
SYMPTOM: Failed an emissions test, usually with the Check Engine light on.
WHY IT HAPPENS: Common causes include oxygen (O2) sensor faults, catalytic converter problems, EVAP leaks, misfires, fuel-system issues, and other engine or emissions-related faults. The trouble code alone doesn't always identify the failed component.
HOW WE HANDLE IT: We diagnose the system using fault codes, live data, sensor testing, smoke testing when needed, and mechanical inspection to identify the actual cause before replacing parts. Once repaired, we verify system operation and readiness for an emissions retest.
